Con Alexandrides — Senior Associate

ATRS is pleased to introduce Con Alexandrides who provides specialist rail industry rolling stock engineering, commercial and management services.

 

Con Alexandrides has over 25 years experience in engineering related rail asset and operations management, and more recently gained extensive experience in commercial management as General Manager of the Pacific National SteelLink business.

 

Con’s extensive career has included diverse roles from cadet engineer through to General Manager positions with Australian National, Goninan, National Rail Corporation, and Pacific National Pty Ltd.

 

Con’s specialist competencies include railway rolling stock asset and maintenance management, operational line management, maintenance facility management, engineering services, and project management.

 

Con also played a significant role in the establishment of the National Rail Corporation and the Australian rail reform process.  Con’s involvement included the management of asset take-up and maintenance operations which included the acquisition and upgrade of existing rolling stock and facilities, organisation design, and staff recruitment.

 

Con was also a key part of the design and purchase of 120 advanced technology and fuel efficient NR class locomotives for the National Rail Corporation under a supply and maintain contract including feasibility, justification, specification, tendering, selection and operational implementation.  

 

In 2002 Pacific National purchased the National Rail Corporation and Con was appointed to Operations Manager Intermodal Division for which he was responsible for planning, implementing and tracking train operations for approximately 230 trains per week across the Australian rail network.

 

In this role Con was responsible for the safety and resource management of locomotive drivers, locomotive and wagon fleet, freight terminals, track access paths, fuel and IT systems. 

 

In early 2007 Con took up the role of General Manager SteelLink for Pacific National for which he was accountable for the overall commercial and operational performance of the national steel logistics business.  This role also included negotiating and implementing a significant service contract for rail operations within a major steel mill facility at Port Kembla in NSW.

 

Con’s formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the South Australian Institute of Technology, a Master in Business Administration from the University of South Australia.  Con is also a Member of the Institution of Engineers in Australia.

 

Con joined ATRS as an Associate Consultant in April 2009 to provide professional and value adding client engineering services, in addition to managing his own Engineering and Management Services business.
