Herman Bruwer — International Associate

ATRS is pleased to present Mr Herman Bruwer as a Senior International Safety Consultant specialising in rail transportation based safety management systems, project management, safety policy, regulation, compliance audit and investigation.

 

Based in Dubai in the Middle East, Herman Bruwer is originally from South Africa and has over 35 years of diverse rail industry experience in train operations, risk management, business management, safety management, and rail safety legislative management as rail safety regulator in South Africa in the period 2005 to 2008.

 

Herman's most recent senior management position has been as Railway Safety Manager for the Dubai Metro Project where he has overseen the development and introduction of the safety management system and operating procedures for the new rail metro operation.

Prior to his Middle East appointment, Herman held a wide range of senior railway management positions for Transnet Freight Rail in South Africa such as Executive Manager of the Safety Office, Manager Standards & Legislation, Senior Manager Operational Risk Processes, and Business Manager for Mainline Passenger Services.

 

Herman has also gained much practical operational railway experience in the earlier stages of his career having been a Train Control Officer, and locomotive driver on a range of traction types including diesel, electric and steam locomotives.

 

Herman holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, and a wide range of other rail industry and short course qualifications associated with his career history.

 

In terms of the global network of rail safety managers, Herman has had a long involvement in the International Rail Safety Conference (IRSC) as a participant, International IRSC Committee Member, and as a past host of the conference in South Africa.  Herman maintains a significant communication network of rail safety managers in many countries around the world.

 

Working as a senior international based rail transportation consultant, Herman joined ATRS in 2010 in an alliance partnership to be available for work in Australasia for any ATRS client who may need his specialist international skills, knowledge and experience.
