Greg Hight — International Associate

Greg Hight joined ATRS in 2011 following an extensive career in the New Zealand rail industry with organisations such as KiwiRail, Toll Rail, TranzRail, and NZ Rail.

 

During this period Greg experienced both public and private sector management of the NZ rail system having assisted with the initial consolidation of the Government owned rail system prior to full privatisation in TranzRail and later Toll Rail, and has since witnessed its return back to Government ownership under KiwiRail.

 

Senior management positions held by Greg include Operational Risk and Compliance Manager, General Manager Network Operations, Area Manager Wellington, Regional Manager Central Region, National Terminals Manager, and Project Manager.

 

During his period as GM Network Operations, Greg had responsibility for the overall training and certification of all operational staff including locomotive engineers (drivers), shunting staff, and track maintenance protection officers.  Greg is experienced and competent in both the off-job and on-job competency based training of railway operational staff.

 

Greg also has extensive railway operational and safeworking network rules experience having held safety critical positions such as Train Control Officer, Section Officer, Operations Officer, and other front line operational positions responsible for the supervision and management of the day-to-day safe operation of the rail network, it's employees and customers.

 

In addition, Greg is an acknowledged rail industry expert in Rail Safety and OH&S legislation and regulations, and their respective application across both New Zealand and Australian jurisdictions.

 

The extensive experience and competencies of Greg Hight in rail safety compliance auditing, risk assessment and accident investigation when combined with his management experience and personal traits of team leadership and mentoring style, make him an ideal choice for the conduct of any independent compliance audit or investigation.

 

While Greg has been instrumental in leading and assisting many rail operational productivity and safety change management projects, one of his key successes has been leading the development and safe introduction of remote control shunting locomotives (no driver) and the creation of remote control operator (shunter) positions in all major New Zealand shunting yards and terminals.

 

Greg is a Graduate of QSA International Training with a Certificate in Implementing and Auditing Quality Management Systems.  The units of competency attained by Greg include QSA-QM Auditing Quality Management Systems, QSA-AU Management System Auditing, and QSA-TL Leading Management System Audit Teams.  Additional qualifications held by Greg include accident investigator training in System Safety Accident Investigation (SSAI), and the Incident Causation & Affects Model (ICAM).

 

The demonstrated practical rail industry based experience and project management expertise of Greg will assist any client in gaining the best possible project outcome to suit customer needs.  While based in Auckland, New Zealand, Greg is available to service client needs across Australia.
