Mel Saunders—Managing Director

Australasian Transport Risk Solutions Pty Ltd (ATRS) is jointly owned and managed by Mel Saunders and David Edwards who formed the company in 2008.   Mel has over 40 years experience in the transport and manufacturing industries working in the key areas of safety, quality, maintenance, operations and compliance audit.

 

Prior to forming ATRS, Mel owned and managed a successful small consultancy business specialising in servicing both industrial and commercial clients in the areas of safety, health, environment, quality and risk management.

 

Prior to this Mel was a lecturer with the NSW Department of TAFE in the Engineering and Business Management Divisions and has held senior teaching positions at a number of TAFE Colleges across NSW.

 

As a Senior Safety and Quality Auditor, Mel has developed risk management systems, audit programs, conducted compliance audits and guided implementation of systems for numerous government, semi-government and private sector organisations.  He has been able to assist more than fifteen companies achieve certification of their systems to ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environment, and AS 4801 Safety standards achieving a 100% certification success rate.

 

Mel holds formal qualifications including a Bachelor of Business Degree (Hons) and both a Graduate Diploma in Engineering and a Graduate Diploma in Adult Education.  Mel is also a registered Chartered Engineer with the European Council of Engineering.  In addition, Mel holds a range of formal safety and quality systems auditing qualifications and competencies.

 

Mel’s considerable personal strength is his hands-on approach and his willingness to become a welcome part of a client’s team to ensure the success of all projects undertaken.
