Bruce Sismey — Senior Associate

ATRS is pleased to introduce Bruce Sismey as a senior railway specialist consultant mechanical engineer, and engineering project manager with over 40 years experience in the Australian rail industry.

 

As a professional mechanical engineer and respected member of the rail industry, Bruce is experienced in all aspects of railway rolling stock including the specifications, design, commissioning, operation and maintenance of locomotives, freight wagons and passenger cars.

 

In particular, Bruce is widely recognised and respected as being one of Australia's foremost experts in the specialist area of railway air brake engineering including ECP braking.

 

Bruce has managed major projects from the initial specification and design phase to the acquisition and commissioning phase and through to on-going maintenance and general asset management.

 

The extensive career enjoyed by Bruce has included diverse roles from cadet engineer with the NSW Government Railway, through to Professional Engineer with the NSW Public Transport Commission, Bogie Design Engineer and Design Engineer Passenger Cars with the State Rail Authority of NSW, and Principal Brake Engineer and Manager Train Performance & Testing with the NSW Freight Rail Corporation (FreightCorp).

 

During this period, Bruce was also seconded for a two year period to the first office of an independent rail safety regulator as the Manager Rolling Stock Safety with the NSW Department of Transport.  This DOT Office was the forerunner to what is now know as the Independent Transport Safety Regulator (ITSR).

 

In more recent time, Bruce held various senior management roles with Pacific National Pty Ltd including Technical Services Manager and Senior Rolling Stock Engineer.

 

The formal qualifications held by Bruce include a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) with Merit - Mechanical Engineering from the University of New South Wales.  Awards won by Bruce include a Confederation of British Industries Scholarship to study railway engineering in the UK.  Other achievements attained by Bruce include a Management Development Program, and further study in Rail Dynamics.

 

Bruce joined ATRS as an Associate Engineering Consultant in 2010 to provide professional and value adding client mechanical engineering services.
