Walter Williams — Senior Associate |

Walter Williams is an industry acknowledged leader in strategic risk management and the specialised risk areas of safety and security management, including safety system development, counter terrorism management planning, threat analysis, business continuity and business resilience.
During the past seven years in Queensland Rail Walter has held senior executive management responsibilities such as Principal Security Advisor, Manager Security and Emergency Management, and Chief Risk Officer. Most recently Walter held the position of General Manager Safety, Risk and Environment for the QR National Coal Business Group.
Walter’s extensive knowledge, experience and leadership skills have been gained progressively in a range of high level security, diplomatic, defence and business areas highlighted by the following positions held throughout a successful career:
Regional Safety and Security Director, Asia Pacific Region, Novell Pty Ltd; Marshal of the Family Court of Australia; Manager, Security and Investigation Service, Australia Post; First Secretary (Defence), Australian High Commission, Port Moresby, PNG; Defence Executive Officer, Joint US/Australian Defence Facility, Pine Gap, NT; Principal Investigator, Office of the Ombudsman; and Commissioned Officer, Australian Defence Force.
Walter is the holder of a Security Advisor Licence and maintains an Australian Government level 3 security clearance. Walter also has had wide ranging policy development experience as Chairperson of the Commonwealth Government Rail Industry Trusted Information Sharing Network (TISN) Group, has represented that group at the higher level national Combined Transport TISN Group, and has served internationally as the Vice Chairman of the Security Commission of the UITP.
Walter is a graduate of Mitchell College, the Macquarie University Business School, and the Australian Army Officer Cadet School.
Walter also holds Graduate Certificates in Risk Management, Security Management; and Public Administration, a Certificate Level IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, and is a graduate of the US Marshal’s Training School Executive Program, Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre, Glencoe, Georgia, USA.
Walter’s professional associations have included being a Member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (Retired); a Member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), and an Associate Fellow of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (AFRMIA).
Walter joined ATRS in late 2008 following his retirement from Queensland Rail and is a valued Senior Associate and available to service client organisation needs. |
